2019 Skills Competition

A little about the competition...  The competition is to physically highlight the skills of the students.  Students participate in challenges designed to test skills required in trades and technology careers. The philosophy of the Skills Competition is to reward students for excellence, directly involve industry in evaluating student performance, and keep training programs relevant to employers’ needs.

Winners of the provincial competition form Team Manitoba and compete against their peers at the Skills Canada National Competition.

Over 475 high school, post secondary and apprentice students compete in 42 skilled trades and technology contests in six industry sectors.

And now for the highlights for 2019’s Provincial & National Gold and Silver Medalists.

Our very own Crew Leader, Dylan S and his classmate Casey N (Alladins Landscape) competed in the competition through their apprenticeship program at Red River College in April 2019 finishing with 1st place and gold medals. With holding that 1st place title, it gave the two the opportunity to compete in the 25th National Skills Competition held in Halifax. May 26-30, 2019 the team travelled to attend, compete and experience Halifax. The team got to test their skills of landscaping, which involved the art and science of the selection and culturing of plants, and the arrangement of landscape structures using materials such as soil, wood, stone and concrete. All while exploring the beautiful city. With great pride from his family and The Swiss Alpine team at home, the two competitors finished with very close points, coming in 2nd place and Silver Medals. Something very special for these two to be apart of and hope they go again next year!

We are so proud of Dylan, not only dominating his level 2 of his apprenticeship at Red River this year, but always being there for our team and showing his efforts in his skills. You’re on your way to a much deserving Red Seal In the Landscape & Garden Industry and we are so happy to have you as part of our team in so many ways.
